Now that
Cablevision's Voom HDTV satellite and HD channels have been
purchased by Dish Network, there are two HDTV
satellite dish systems from which to choose in the United
States.
IF
you've got an HD-ready television AND have never been a
Dish Network satellite TV customer AND
you don't want to actually have to PURCHASE HDTV
receivers, you may want to consider a Dish Network
HDTV satellite system. If you qualify, Dish Network is
currently offering FREE INSTALLATION and up front lease of HDTV receivers - paid for
on your Dish Network satellite TV bill. (If you are
the not the owner of the property where you'd like to order HDTV
satellite service, be sure to get permission from your landlord
before proceeding with installation of satellite dish equipment.)
10 Voom Original HD
channels are now available from Dish Network by installing a
second dish and paying just $5 more per month. Three
standout Voom HD channels include EquatorHD, RaveHD, and HDNews.
Hey, you've GOT to love their high def weather maps -- I can
only hope that someday ALL news programs will be as easy on the
eyes as HDNews! ---> Dish Network

A DIRECTV
HDTV satellite system is your other satellite HDTV provider
choice. Although they don't currently offer as many HD
channels as does Dish Network, DIRECTV has ambitious plans for
lots more HD channels in the future.

High definition satellite receivers
require more than just an HD-ready television before you can
view high definition TV programs, including:
-
one or more
satellite dishes properly mounted, aimed at unobstructed satellite(s) in the sky,
usually on the roof or side of your home, grounded, with the
cable signal run inside to your satellite receiver, etc.
Only qualified installers should install satellite dish
systems!
-
proper connection
to your HDTV-ready television with the right HDTV
cables. Also don't forget digital audio cable to
connect your satellite HD receiver to your home
theater receiver.
-
you'll need to
subscribe to an HD programming package from DIRECTV
or Dish Network.
-
HDTV
satellite receivers also include an ATSC
tuner. Don't forget to also buy an off
air HDTV antenna if you also want to be able to view one
or more HDTV broadcast channels
that MAY be transmitted in your local area. Word of
warning: Reception varies by location!
-
if you want to
watch pay per view programs, you'll need to have your HDTV
satellite receiver connected to a phone line.
